Zinc Inventories Continue Falling in China Major Markets, SMM Reports

Combined zinc inventories in Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangdong decreased 8,000 to 129,100 tonnes this past week, down for over three months in a row, SMM data show.

SHANGHAI, May. 27 (SMM) – Combined zinc inventories in Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangdong decreased 8,000 to 129,100 tonnes this past week, down for over three months in a row, SMM data show.

Zinc Prices to Fall in Coming Week, SMM Foresees

Arriving shipments grew slightly, but outward shipments received a boost as trading improved in the latter half of the week. Zinc consumption in Tianjin also picked up after environmental protection push.

China Zinc Concentrate TCs Rise in Some Markets, SMM Reports

Total inventories in the three regions are expected to remain stable in the coming week, SMM predicts.

South Korea to Exempt Tariffs on Overseas-Sourced Critical Minerals
On the 25th, it was confirmed that the South Korean government will exempt tariffs of 3–8% on critical minerals such as lithium, graphite, and rare earth elements when domestically owned companies directly produce and import them from overseas. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has pre-announced a new regulation outlining tariff exemptions for overseas resource development projects. Under the policy, a total of 14 critical minerals—including lithium, graphite, nickel, cobalt, manganese, copper, zinc, and rare earth elements such as lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, terbium, dysprosium, yttrium, and scandium—will be eligible for duty exemption when brought into the country. The regulation is set to take effect on April 3.
