SHFE 1709 nickel opened at RMB 75,880/mt today, and then hovered around the moving average.

SHANGHAI, May 25 (SMM) – SHFE 1709 nickel opened at RMB 75,880/mt today, and then hovered around the moving average. In the afternoon, SHFE 1709 nickel surged to RMB 76,460/mt and then fell with iron ore futures, and closed at RMB 75,920/mt, down RMB 1,130/mt or 1.47%. Trading volumes on SHFE 1709 nickel decreased 47,700 to 362,000, and positions decreased 1,692 to 556,000. SHFE nickel is expected to fluctuate at lows this evening.

[SMM Nickel Flash] The SMM average price of 10-12% high-grade NPI fell 17.2 yuan/mtu WoW to 1,035.8 yuan/mtu (ex-factory, tax included), while the Indonesia NPI FOB index average price dropped 2.06 $/mtu WoW to 131.2 $/mtu. At the beginning of the week, futures hit limit-down, and nickel prices fell sharply WoW, driving the emergence of arbitrage supplies sold at low prices, leading to a significant decline in high-grade NPI prices.
