SHANGHAI, May 23 (SMM) – SHFE 1709 nickel opened at RMB 78,080/mt today, and met resistance from RMB 78,420/mt. In the afternoon, ferrous metals plunged. SHFE 1709 nickel erased all gains in the morning, and closed at RMB 77,630/mt, down RMB 220/mt or 0.28%. Trading volumes on SHFE 1709 nickel decreased 232,000 to 361,000, and positions decreased 1,790 to 550,000. SHFE nickel is expected to fluctuate at current level this evening.

As of now, the FOB price of nickel in Indonesian MHP was $15,383/mt Ni, and the FOB price of cobalt in Indonesian MHP was $51,364/mt Co. MHP payables (against the SMM battery-grade nickel sulphate index) were 86.5-87.5, and the payable indicator for cobalt element in MHP (against SMM refined cobalt (Rotterdam warehouse)) was 94. The FOB price of Indonesian high-grade nickel matte was $15,666/mt Ni.
