SHANGHAI, Mar. 10 (SMM) – There were 28 working days in February, and China’s aluminum output increased to 2.84 million tonnes, up 21.1 percent year-on-year. Output totaled 5.88 million tonnes during the first two months of 2017, up 21.6 percent year-on-year.
China’s aluminum operational capacities approached to 37 million tonnes, up nearly 7 million tonnes on a yearly basis. Supply was still on the rise, as new capacities came online. Meanwhile, low-cost aluminum capacities also sprung up in Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia due to high profits. By the end of February, China’s aluminum operational capacities were up by around 1 million tonnes on a monthly basis.
SMM expects the operational capacities in China to grow further in March, and aluminum output to increase to 3.16 million tonnes in March, up 17.9 percent year-on-year.
