SHANGHAI, Jan. 19 (SMM) – Latest news from Manila that the Philippines has canceled environmental permits for four more miners.
The four include one nickel producer, one gold miner, a coal producer, and an iron and copper project.
In December, the Philippines cancelled environmental compliance certificates (ECCs) of three nickel mines and warned three more producers were at risk of losing theirs after its months-long environmental crackdowns.
SMM expects Philippine nickel ore exports to be 2.03 million wmt in December 2016, down 2.05 million wmt or 50% from November’s. About 1.83-1.87 million wmt or 90-92% of these nickel ores are expected to have been shipped to China.
Moreover, nickel ore inventories at China’s ports have kept falling in recent weeks, according to SMM data.
