The North American copper scrap prices remained flat on December 28th, Wednesday.

TORONTO (Scrap Monster): The North American copper scrap prices remained unchanged on ScrapMonster Price Index as on December 28th, Wednesday.

The price of Alternator scrap remained unchanged over the previous day. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing held steady at $2.26 per Lb. #2 Copper Wire and Tubing prices were also unchanged at $2.12 per Lb. The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright remained flat at $ 2.34 per Lb.

The prices of #1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery remained flat over the day. #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery prices too were unchanged. #3 Copper-Light copper prices too maintained previous day’s level at $2.02 per Lb.

The prices of Copper Radiator scrap witnessed no change from previous day’s levels. Copper Transformer Scrap prices remained unchanged. CuYokes and Cu/Al Radiator Ends prices too saw no change from the previous day.

Meanwhile, the prices of Cu/Al Radiators and Cu/Al Radiators/Fe remained flat on December 28th.

Harness Wire 35% Recovery and Heater cores prices remained unchanged over the day.

The prices of Scrap Electric Motors, Sealed units, Starters and Xmas Lights maintained previous day price levels.

South Africa could further tighten regulation of its copper scrap trade after the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) recommended mandatory cashless payments for all copper scrap transactions, with electronic payment records retained for at least five years. In a new policy brief released this week, the commission argued that cash reduces transaction traceability and allows stolen copper cable and other infrastructure metals to move more easily through apparently legitimate scrap channels. It therefore proposed amending the Second-Hand Goods Act to explicitly require cashless copper scrap trading. BusinessTech The SAHRC also recommended that the Financial Intelligence Centre monitor suspicious transaction patterns and report them to SAPS and ITAC, while urging the government to move forward with the proposed Second-Hand Goods Amendment Bill targeting cable theft and illicit scrap trading. Importantly, the cashless requirement is currently a policy recommendation rather than a newly implemented regulation. If incorporated into legislation, however, it would increase traceability and compliance requirements for South African copper scrap collectors, recyclers, traders and exporters.

[India Domestic] Domestic steel and scrap market strengthened with prices increasing from Friday across key markets amid improved demand, while tight availability is also supporting prices. Rebar prices up 6 USD/tonne (600 INR/tonne) to 533 USD/tonne (51,200 INR/tonne) EXW Raipur. Mumbai rebar 2 USD/tonne (200 INR/tonne) to 539 USD/tonne (51,700 INR/tonne) EXW Mumbai. Billet increased 11 USD/tonne (1,100 INR/tonne) to 469 USD/tonne (45,000 INR/tonne) EXW Raipur. Durgapur rose 9 USD/tonne (900 INR/tonne) to 468 USD/tonne (44,500 INR/tonne) delivered Durgapur. Sponge iron PDRI up 10 USD/tonne (1,000 INR/tonne) to 304 USD/tonne (29,200 INR/tonne) EXW Raipur. HMS 1&2 (80:20) rose 8 USD/tonne (800 INR/tonne) to 402 USD/tonne (38,600 INR/tonne) delivered Mandi. Mandi ingot up 9 USD/tonne (900 INR/tonne) to 496 USD/tonne (47,600 INR/tonne) EXW Mandi. Mandi Market sources said some ingot deals were heard at 497-498 USD/tonne (47,700–47,800 INR/tonne).. Steel prices may remain stable to firm in early October, although a strong rise will depend on improvement in actual buying demand.
