SINGAPORE (Scrap Register): ASEAN hot rolled cold (HRC) steel import prices (CFR ASEAN port) rose above $400 a ton during the week ended August 26, as per the latest figures released by The Steel Index.

ASEAN HRC index advanced sharply by $12 a ton to finished the week at $409 a ton on Friday.

HRC SAE grade from India continued to be booked at $410 a ton, while MMK was selling big coils between $398-400 a ton. Several deals were heard concluded from China’s second-tier mills in the $405-408 a ton range.

SAE grade from first-tier Chinese mills was offered at $420-430 a ton and some transactions were done between $415-420 a ton.

Chinese-origin HRC SS400 grade was offered at $400-410 a ton but most bids stayed below $400 a ton given the quiet domestic market in Vietnam.

All prices quoted on a CFR ASEAN port basis.
