Most Chinese Electric Bicycle Battery Producers Slash Output

An increasing number of Chinese electric bicycle battery producers plan to cut output against the slow season starting mid and late March, SMM understands.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 22 (SMM) – An increasing number of Chinese electric bicycle battery producers plan to cut output against the slow season starting mid and late March, SMM understands.

The latest SMM survey of 10 Chinese motive battery producers finds 2 lowered operating rates to 50%, 3 left operating rates at 60-70%, 2 operated at a rate of 70-80% and 3 left operating rates at 80-90%.

One battery producer told SMM the replacement market was dull due to the low-demand season. When combined with fierce competition, orders shrank significantly. Some producers will continue to slash output in May before the onset of peak demand period.
