SHANGHAI, Jan. 12 (SMM) - Demand for die-cast zinc alloy may receive a boost as China is ramping up electric vehicle production.
BAIC Motor, Shandong Baoya and Dezhou government plan to invest 6 billion yuan in electric vehicle production in December 2015. Auto parts producers, including TEMB Group and Nanfang Bearing, also plan to construct auto part casting and assembling lines in 2016, SMM understands.
China’s die-cast zinc alloy sector was mixed in the fourth quarter of 2015, said one SMM zinc analyst. Production at those producing medium and high-end automobile die-cast zinc alloy was stable. But small ones producing low-end products slashed or ceased production, in the face of cash tightness and weak competitiveness, with average operating rate below 50%.
