MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): According to government statistics released yesterday, the pig iron exports by Russia during the month of October last year jumped significantly higher when compared with the exports during same month a year before. However, the exports declined sharply from the previous month.
Russia’s pig iron exports totaled 289,445 during October ’15. The total exports were up by 10.7% over the previous year. The country’s pig iron exports had totaled 261,468 tons during the month of October in 2014. The exports dropped sharply by 48.4% from a month ago. Russia’s pig iron exports had totaled 561,422 tons during September this year.
The largest importer of Russian pig iron during Oct ‘15 was the US with 141,596 tons. The exports to the US dropped sharply by 41.18% when compared with the exports of 240,731 tons during the previous month. The exports to the US in Oct ’15 accounted for nearly 49% of the total pig iron exports by Russia during the month. The second largest importer was Italy. The imports by Italy surged higher by almost twenty-fold over the previous month total of 3,836 tons in September to 62,091 tons in October. In third place was Germany with 26,908 tons. The other key export destinations of Russian pig iron were Japan (21,889 tons), Taiwan (13,251 tons) and Belarus (9,452 tons).
The cumulative pig iron exports by the country during the initial ten-month period in 2015 totaled 4.128 million tons, 15.8% higher when compared with the exports of 3.566 million tons during the corresponding ten-month period in 2014. The top export destination of Russian pig iron was the US. The exports to the country totaled 1.939 million tons, accounting for 43.9% of the total pig iron exports during this period. The other key importers during Jan-Oct ’15 were Spain (497,041 tons), Italy (457,272 tons), Turkey (286,573 tons) and Taiwan (261,100 tons).
The country’s pig iron exports during the entire year 2015 are estimated to total around 5 million tons.
