US Weekly Raw Steel production slumps by over 1%

The weekly raw steel output by the US dropped over 1% during the week ended December 12th, 2015.

ALBANY (Scrap Monster): As per the statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the raw steel production by the country dropped marginally by 1.1% during the week ended December 12th, 2015. The production had rebounded sharply by 4.4% during the week prior to this.

The total domestic raw steel output during the week ending December 12th was 1,536,000 net tons. The AISI data indicates that the US raw steel production has declined slightly by 1.1% during the week. This is in comparison with the previous week (ie., the week ended Dec 5th)  production figures of 1,553,000 net tons. Also, the weekly output represents a sharp decline of 14.4% in comparison with production of 1,795,000 net tons during same week the previous year.

The capability utilization rate of US steel makers declined to 64.2% during the week ended Dec 12th, 2015.

The capacity utilization rate has declined marginally when compared with 65.0% during the previous week (ie., the week ending December 5th). Also, capacity utilization was considerably lower when compared with the rate of 74.6% during same week the previous year.
