World DRI output posts marginal rise in October

The world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in October this year has increased marginally by 1.13% when compared with the previous month.

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in October this year has increased marginally by 1.13% when compared with the previous month.

The world DRI production during the month of October 2015 totaled 5.025 million metric tons, up 1.13% when compared with the 4.969 million metric tons production achieved during September this year.

According to World Steel data, India ranked first in DRI production during the month. Iran and Mexico were the second and third largest DRI producing nations.

The estimated DRI output by India during October this year was 1.460 million metric tons. The country’s DRI output in October increased slightly when compared with the previous month. The DRI output by India had totaled 1.413 million metric tons during the previous month. Iran’s DRI production in October this year totaled 1.250 million metric tons, which is 3.48% higher when compared with the previous month output of 1.208 million metric tons. The Mexican DRI output in October amounted to 550,000 metric tons, which is marginally higher when compared with the output of 530,000 metric tons during September this year.

The DRI output (in thousand metric tons) by the other eleven countries in October 2015 is as follows: Canada (127), Saudi Arabia (417), Trinidad & Tobago (26), Argentina (157), Peru (6), Venezuela (160), Egypt (185), Libya (22), South Africa (140), Qatar (202) and United Arab Emirates (323).

The World Steel production figures are based on the figures collected from 14 countries, which accounted for approximately 90% of the global DRI production in 2014.
