[SMM Aluminum Flash News] Capral Aluminum Electrifies Furnace, Boosting Efficiency to 90% and Cutting Emissions
Capral Aluminum is replacing a 40-year-old gas furnace at its Queensland site with an electric system, including an electric convection furnace, induction heating and waste heat recovery. Efficiency is expected to rise from about 20% to over 90%, while cutting Scope 1 emissions by around 973 tones per year, about 9% of total emissions. The project, supported by AUD 3.45 million from ARENA, is targeted for commissioning in early 2027. The company said electrification will reduce emissions and fuel costs while improving operational stability and product consistency, and could serve as a reference for low-carbon upgrades in aluminum processing.
