World pig iron output rose marginally in Oct 2015

The global pig iron production climbed higher by 1.06% over the previous month in October '15. This is in accordance with the latest statistics released by the World Steel Association.

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to latest statistics released by the World Steel Association, the global pig iron output increased slightly by 1.06% over the previous month to 95.327 million tons during the month of October this year. The global of pig iron had totaled 94.325 million tons during the month before this.

The total pig iron production by EU-28 countries during October this year was 7.717 Million tonnes (Mt), higher when compared with the September 2015 production of 7.167 Mt. Germany accounted for 2.275 Mt and the UK’s pig iron output totaled 694,000 mt. Italy’s pig iron output dropped sharply from 499,000 mt in Sep ’15 to 436,000 mt in Oct ’15.

Among Asian countries, China accounted for nearly 60% of the world blast-furnace iron output in October 2015. The Chinese output totaled 56.312 mt during the month. The Indian pig iron output ended slightly higher at 4.745 million mt in Oct ’15 when compared with the output of 4.591 million mt in September this year. The Japanese pig iron output increased from 6.637 million mt in Sep ’15 to 6.914 million mt in October this year. Also, South Korean output climbed higher from 3.932 million mt a month before to 4.065 million mt during October ’15.

The US pig iron output climbed higher marginally to 2.10 million mt. A notable increase in production volume was reported by Brazil during the month. The country’s pig iron production surged higher from 2.195 million mt a month ago to 2.434 million mt during Oct ’15. The other major pig iron producing nations were Russia (4.305 million mt, down 3.08% month-on-month) and Ukraine (2.040 million mt, up 0.34% month-on-month).
