SHANGHAI, Nov. 10 (SMM) – Costs at Chinese aluminum smelters continued falling in October, SMM survey revealed.
Average cost at smelters surveyed by SMM dropped 4.17% month-on-month in October, contributed mainly by a 4.66% drop in power cost and a 4.67% fall in alumina cost.
Lower coal prices also played a role. The Bohai-Rim Steam-Coal Price Index (BSPI) was down RMB 4.0% from September to 380 yuan per tonne, benefitting smelters with captive power plants.
