Main sea freight index at Baltic Exchange continues to decline to below 640 points

The main sea freight index at Baltic Exchange for ships carrying dry bulk commodities continued to decline to below 650 points on Thursday lead by drop in capesize, panamax and supramax rates.

LONDON (Scrap Register): The main sea freight index at Baltic Exchange for ships carrying dry bulk commodities continued to decline to below 650 points on Thursday lead by drop in capesize, panamax and supramax rates.

The overall index, which factors in average daily earnings of capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize dry bulk transport vessels, down by another 17 points to 640 points on Wednesday.

The main sea freight index at Baltic Exchange is the rate which tracks for ships carrying dry bulk commodities.

Aperam, the Luxembourg-based stainless steel manufacturer, has raised alloy surcharges for its European austenitic flat products for April 2026. Key adjustments include: Grade 304 rose to EUR 2,211/ton (from EUR 2,151); Grade 316L surged to EUR 3,807/ton (from EUR 3,653); Grade 309S reached EUR 2,982/ton; and ferritic Grade 409 increased to EUR 898/ton.
