Malaysia overtook Australia as China’s top bauxite supplier during January-September due to its overwhelming price appeal.

SHANGHAI, Nov. 2 (SMM) –Malaysia overtook Australia as China’s top bauxite supplier during January-September due to its overwhelming price appeal.

Imports from Malaysia totaled 15.87 million tonnes during the first nine months, well above 15.09 million tonnes imported from Australia, customs data showed. China imported 6.81 million tonnes of bauxite in September, up 138.62% year-on-year

In September, average CIF price of Malaysian bauxite was $45.97 per tonne, 13.83% lower than Australian ore and 27.53% lower than Indian ore, SMM data showed.
