WINCHESTER (Scrap Monster): River Metals Recycling (RMR)’s Paducah, KY facility has been certified under the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). This is the company’s third Kentucky facility to be certified by SHARP. The Newport and Owensboro facilities had obtained the prestigious certification before.

Kentucky Labor Secretary Larry L. Roberts congratulated the RMR Paducah team for helping the company achieve this rare milestone. The receipt of the highest safety and health honor underscores the company’s continued commitment to highest safety standards, noted Bob Eviston, RMR president. Eviston congratulated the RMR Paducah teammates for their hard work and continuing focus on safety. He reminded that the small team at Paducah facility had to undergo rigorous evaluation and a series of audits to achieve the certification.

The facility has been successful in maintaining lower injury rates for the past three years. Incidentally, the Paducah facility had reported zero incident rates for the past four years in a row.

River Metals Recycling, LLC (RMR) is a wholly owned venture of Cincinnati-based, The David J. Joseph Company (DJJ), one of the USA’s largest scrap metal companies. The company has nine scrap recycling facilities-five in Kentucky, two in Ohio and one each in Indiana and Illinois. RMR employs approximately 250 teammates and is the largest scrap recycler in Kentucky.

SHARP certification recognizes small business employers who have used OSHA's On-site Consultation Program services and operate an exemplary injury and illness prevention program. Acceptance of worksite into SHARP from OSHA is an achievement of status that singles out the business among business peers as a model for worksite safety and health. Sharp’s certification is good for two years, after which the company may require to renew it.
