BEIJING (Scrap Monster): The steel mills in Eastern China region have announced little change to ferrous scrap purchasing prices. The purchasing prices remained stable primarily due to rising iron ore prices.

Jiangsu Shagang Group announced that scrap buying prices will remain unchanged. Post announcement, the purchasing price for heavy melting scrap with thickness 6mm and above by Shagang Group will continue at Yuan 1,330 per mt, inclusive of 17% value-added tax (VAT) delivered to Zhangjiagang. The company had cut the scrap prices by Yuan 40 per mt during end-August.

Yonggang Group in the same province also kept its scrap purchasing prices unchanged for deliveries to Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province. Dongfang Special Steel too announced that purchasing price of heavy melting scrap of thickness 6 mm and above for deliveries to Changzhou will remain flat. Also, Anhui-based Maanshan Iron & Steel’s buy price for plate cut-offs with thickness 6mm and above for deliveries to Maanshan will continue to remain unchanged from the previous week.

According to mills in the region, ferrous scrap buying prices are likely to remain stable in the near future, mainly on account of rise in iron ore prices. Also, rebar prices have continued to remain stable in the region post Sep 3-5 holidays. The steel demand in the country is yet to report any significant improvement, mills added.

KCM Restarts Nchanga Copper Smelter After 106-Day Shutdown, Casts First Copper Anode
Konkola Copper Mines has restarted its Nchanga copper smelter in Zambia and cast the first copper anode following a 106-day shutdown. The outage was used for an extensive rehabilitation and refurbishment programme aimed at improving plant reliability, efficiency and long-term operating performance. The shutdown, which began in early June and was initially expected to last around 60 days, ultimately extended to 106 days, with the rehabilitation programme reportedly involving around US$40 million of investment. The restart restores an important part of Zambia's domestic concentrate-processing capacity after several major smelters underwent extended maintenance during the June–September period. KCM's broader recovery strategy targets copper production of around 300,000 t/y by 2030, supported by mi

Gravita Targets 60,000 t/y Copper Recycling Capacity as New Business Reaches 50% Utilisation
Gravita India is scaling up its newly established copper recycling business following the acquisition of Rashtriya Metal Industries. The segment currently has 31,200 t/y of capacity, operated at around 50% utilisation in Q1 FY2027, and generated Rs 3.76 billion in quarterly revenue. Gravita plans to lift utilisation above 60% by year-end while commissioning a new 29,400 t/y copper recycling plant in Gujarat within the next 12 months. Total copper recycling capacity is targeted to reach around 60,000 t/y over the next three years. The company is also developing direct scrap procurement yards in markets including the U.S. to secure copper and other recycled feedstocks and reduce exposure to supply disruptions in existing sourcing channels.
