[Steel Output]US Raw Steel production plummets 9% y/y to 1,756,000 net tons

United States raw steel production plummeted by 9% year-on-year to 1,756,000 net tons in the week ended August 8.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States raw steel production plummeted by 9% year-on-year to 1,756,000 net tons in the week ended August 8, while the capability utilization rate was 73.4 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

Production was 1,930,000 net tons in the week ended August 8, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 80.2 percent.

According to AISI, Production for the week ended August 8, 2015 is down 0.2 percent from the previous week ended August 1, 2015 when production was 1,760,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.6 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through August 8, 2015 was 54,003,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.5 percent.

That is down 7.8 percent from the 58,548,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 78.0 percent.
