Thailand scrap imports rise in April

The latest import statistics indicate that the scrap imports by Thailand during April this year rose sharply over the previous month.

BEIJING (Scrap Monster): The latest import statistics indicate that the scrap imports by Thailand during April this year rose sharply over the previous month. Also, the scrap imports witnessed strong growth when compared with the same month a year ago.
 
The scrap imports by Thailand during the month of April this year totaled 123,000 tons. The imports increased by 17.9% when compared with the scrap imports during the same month a year ago. Meantime, the scrap imports have soared significantly higher by nearly 182% over the previous month. Thailand had imported 68,000 tons of scrap during the month of March this year.
 
The largest scrap exporter to Thailand during Apr ’15 was the US. The scrap imports by Thailand from the US totaled 60,000 tons. The scrap imports from the country accounted for nearly 50% of the total scrap imports by Thailand during the month. The second largest scrap exporter to Thailand during the month was Philippines. The imports from the country totaled 18,000 tons, accounting for over 14% of the total scrap imports by Thailand during the month.
 
The country’s scrap imports during initial four months of the year totaled 325,000 tons. The scrap imports were 16.7% higher upon comparison with the imports during the corresponding four-month period last year.
 
The scrap imports by Thailand are projected to touch 970,000 tons during the entire year 2015.
