US steel shipments plunged 11% in February

The shipments in February 2015 were 9% down when compared with the figures recorded during same month the previous year.

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The most recent report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI)- the association of North American steel producers indicates that the US steel mill shipments tumbled by 11% in February this year over the previous month. Also, the shipments in February 2015 were 9% down when compared with the figures recorded during same month the previous year.
 
According to AISI, the US steel mills shipment for the month of February totaled 6,925,596 net tons, down 10.8% when compared to the total shipments of 7,762,742 net tons during January this year. Also, the steel shipments in February have witnessed corresponding decline over the year. Steel shipments dropped by 9.1% during Feb ‘15, when compared with the 7,618,380 net tons shipment during February 2014.
 
The US steel shipments for the initial two-month period of the year declined by 5.3% to 14.688 million net tons as against 15.514 million tons shipment during the corresponding two-month period from January to February last year.
 
The products which witnessed sizable changes in shipments during the month of February when compared with the previous month were: hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip (down 10.0%), cold rolled sheet (down by 9.0%) and hot rolled sheets (down 9.0%).

China's Electronic Info Manufacturing Surges in Jan-Feb: Strong Growth
According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, from January to February this year, China's electronic information manufacturing industry saw rapid production growth, recovering exports, significantly improved profitability, and accelerating investment growth. Data showed that from January to February, the value added of electronic information manufacturers above designated size grew 14.2% YoY, with the YoY growth rate exceeding that of the overall industrial sector and the high-tech manufacturing sector by 7.9 and 1.1 percentage points, respectively. Over the first two months, electronic information manufacturers above designated size achieved operating revenue of 2.63 trillion yuan, up 14.3% YoY. The cumulative export delivery value increased 1.2% YoY, and fixed asset investment in the electronic information manufacturing industry grew 1.2% YoY.
