LONDON (Scrap Register): Northern Europe hot rolled cold (HRC) steel prices edged up by €1 per ton week-on-week to €423 per ton in the week ended October 17 this year, as per the latest figures released by The Steel Index.
According to TSI, negative market sentiment continued to prevail in the South European market as HRC prices in the region weakened during the week.
To attract orders, some Italian producers have reportedly decreased their HRC asking prices to €410-420 a ton (ex-works), but this is yet to entice buyers back to the market in a significant way.
North European mills have resisted lowering offers so far and HR coil prices rose a few Euros within the €415-425 a ton range.
