LONDON (Scrap Register): Southern Europe hot rolled cold (HRC) steel import prices dropped by €2 per ton week-on-week to €417 per ton in the week ended October 17, as per the latest figures released by the The Steel Index.

According to TSI, negative market sentiment continued to prevail in the South European market as HRC prices in the region weakened during the week.

To attract orders, some Italian producers have reportedly decreased their HRC asking prices to €410-420/tonne (ex-works), but this is yet to entice buyers back to the market in a significant way.

North European mills have resisted lowering offers so far and HR coil prices rose a few Euros within the €415-425 a ton range.
