SHANGHAI, Oct. 21 (SMM) – Average operating rate at 41 major Chinese zinc smelters in fell to 77.27% in September, down 0.85% month-on-month, Shanghai Metals Market survey shows.

Output at the surveyed smelters, involving a total of 5.69 million mt capacities, totaled 358,600 tonne over the month, according to SMM survey.

The drop in operating rate was due mainly to unit maintenance, such as Chihong Zn&Ge and production halts, SMM learns. Some zinc smelters in Hunan suspended production as mine accident disrupted the supply of raw materials.

SMM expects average operating rate at major domestic zinc smelters to rise to 78% in October because of production resumption.
