NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States hot rolled cold (HRC) steel prices remained flat week-on-week at $656 a short ton in the week ended October 10, as per The Steel Index.
According to TSI, following a jump in coil imports and decrease in scrap prices, market sentiment in the US turned bearish, significantly slowing down trading activity.
Anticipating that planned mills’ outages will not be sufficient to support current market prices, many buyers prefer to wait for the prices to come down before committing to deals.
US HRC prices remained mostly stable during the week as concluded trades were seen consolidating around the $655 a short ton mark for the time being.
