TAIPEI (Scrap Register): The scrap index for containerised Taiwanese imports of HMS # 1&2 80:20 edged up by $1 a ton week on week to finish at $348 a ton CFR Taiwanese port in the week ended August 08th this year.
According to TSI, demand for scrap from mills picked up as they looked to replenish scrap inventories in anticipation of a ramp-up in production following the completion of annual maintenance.
This increased demand translated into mills being prepared to pay a slightly higher price for scrap, despite finished steel demand remaining subdued.
