HARARE (Scrap Monster):  Walter Chidhakwa, the Mines Minister said that the during the period January-July, the gold production dropped down by 26 percent to about 6 tonnes, when compared with that of the same period last year.

The Chamber of Mines has said that the drop in the gold production was due to the shortages of electricity and lack of capital. But the mines minister declined to comment about the reason.

Sales of bullion account for more than 30% of the country’s total exports. Walter Chidhakwa said that about 26% of the mineral was being produced by small scale mining companies.
