NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production advanced by 1.4% year-on-year to 1,850,000 net tons in the week ended June 14th this year while the capability utilization rate was 76.9 percent, as per the latest figures release by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
According to AISI, production was 1,824,000 net tons in the week ended June 14, 2013, while the capability utilization then was 76.1 percent.
Production for the week ended June 14, 2014 is up 0.3 percent from the previous week ended June 7, 2014 when production was 1,845,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.7 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through June 14, 2014 was 43,235 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.3 percent. That is a 0.2 percent decrease from the 43,339 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.7 percent.
Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ended June 14, 2014 in thousands of net tons: North East: 229; Great Lakes: 648; Midwest: 246; Southern: 638 and Western: 89 for a total of 1,850.
