NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States hot rolled cold (HRC) steel prices rose further to $654 a short ton in the week ended April 4th this year, as per the latest figures released by the The Steel Index (TSI).

According to TSI, sheet prices in the US Midwest surged $20 a short ton earlier last week as tightness in supply due to outages and weather constraints supported recent finished steel price hikes.

By Tuesday, TSI’s daily HRC index jumped to $654 a short ton, $20 a short ton up from last Friday’s levels, as news broke of ice six feet deep on Lake Superior causing USS to pare back production due to iron ore delivery issues.
