LONDON (Scrap Register): Northern Europe hot rolled cold (HRC) steel prices slightly up by 0.2% or €1 a ton week-on-week to €436 per ton in the week ended April 4th this year, as per the latest figures released by The Steel Index.

After the recent price decreases, European HR coil markets stabilized at new, albeit lower levels.

North European producers tried to resist any further downward pressure and held their offer prices between €430- 440 a ton.

South European buyers took advantage of what they believed to be a bottoming market and placed their previously delayed orders.

HRC in Italy was actively trading near the €410 a ton mark, with a number of transactions recorded below this level.
