NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States shredded scrap prices remained flat week-on-week at $388 a long ton in the week ended March 21st this year, as per the latest figures released by the The Steel Index.

According to TSI, US Midwest shredded index (delivered mill) remained steady last week to finish at $388 a long ton. It was a case of status quo in the market, with relatively low demand for scrap material being offset by low collection rates owing to the sustained wintery weather.

Demand for US Midwest finished steel products has been somewhat undermined by increased imports, although participants remain optimistic that a bottom in the market has been found.
