London, 11 February 2014
Marex Spectron, the world’s leading independent commodities broker, has launched the first Speculative Positioning Report for LME base metals, providing up to date estimates on the status of London Metal Exchange each week - a ground-breaking step for the base metals market (first report attached).
The Report will be published every Monday morning, based on estimates of market positions at close of business each preceding Friday in order to provide the most up to date information.
It is derived from a proprietary algorithm and based solely on publicly available data from the exchange, which enables Marex Spectron to offer a full historical record of estimates going back as far as 1993.
The report contains estimates for each of the LME base metals with information such as net speculative positions and historical positions.
Guy Wolf, Global Head of Market Analytics at Marex Spectron, said: “The ability to have an accurate assessment of what speculators are doing on a regular basis is an important part of any risk management process.”
“Our estimates of speculative positioning are already widely followed in the base metals market but this is the first time we have formalised them in a weekly report. As such, this fills an important information gap on the exchange.”

In order to share the information globally, the LME Speculative Positioning Report will also be available in Chinese.
