SHANGHAI, Sept. 26 (SMM) – China’s first bismuth association was set up this week in Hunan’s Chenzhou city where half of the world’s reserves of the minor metal are deposited.
Shanghai Metals Market (SMM), which publishes prices for bismuth ingots 99.99% daily, attended the inaugural meeting of Chenzhou Bismuth Association on invitation September 24.
Proven bismuth reserves in Chenzhou are around 340,000 tonnes, accounting for 73% of China’s total and 50% of the world’s total reserves, according to SMM’s data. 11,000 tonnes of bismuth metal were produced in Chenzhou in 2012, accounting for 75% of the national output last year.
The association aims to work on Chenzhou’s industrial competiveness in the bismuth sector so as to have a greater say in global pricing of the metal used widely in pharmaceuticals industry, as well as in semiconductors and chemical agents.
