China Customs reported that China’s refined lead imports in the first seven months were 533 mt, down 88.41% from a year ago.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 28 (SMM) – China Customs reported that China’s refined lead imports in the first seven months were 533 mt, down 88.41% from a year ago, due to unfavorable Shanghai/LME lead price ratio. Lead imports were 50 mt and zero in July and June, respectively.

The Shanghai/LME lead price ratio has remained lower around 6.6 this year, allowing little profit for importing refined lead. That, combined with an supply glut in domestic lead market, undermined interest for importing lead.

Most, or 66%, of the imports during the first seven months were supplied by Australia, and 16.7% came from Japan.
