China exported 52,906.64 mt of aluminum stranded wire, cable, plaited bands and related products in H1, 2013, down 21.58% YoY, according to China Customs.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 30 (SMM) – China exported 52,906.64 mt of aluminum stranded wire, cable, plaited bands and related products in H1, 2013, down 21.58% YoY, according to China Customs.

Exports of non-insulated steel-core aluminum stranded wire, cable, plaited bands and related products totaled 33,772.38 mt, down 22.91% YoY, while exports of other non-insulated aluminum stranded wire, cable, plaited bands and related products amounted to 19,134.26 mt, also a drop of 19.13% YoY.

Two factors underlie the decline in China’s aluminum wire and cable exports. First, the SHFE/LME aluminum price ratio was high, pushing raw material prices up for Chinese producers. This made Chinese aluminum wire and cable less attractive in overseas market. Second, Low R&D capabilities have weakened domestic producers’ competitiveness against foreign competitors.
