Silicon Metal Shipments Impeded by Earthquake in Ya’an

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Lushan county of Ya'an city in southwest China's Sichuan Province at 8:02 a.m. Saturday Beijing Time.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 22 (SMM) – A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Lushan county of Ya'an city in southwest China's Sichuan Province at 8:02 a.m. Saturday Beijing Time, leaving 188 people dead, 11,460 injured, and 25 missing as of 2 p.m. Monday.

According to SMM sources, Lushan county and Baoxing county were heavily affected by the quake, while Shimian county and Tianquan county, where most silicon metal producers of Ya’an city concentrated, were not greatly affected. Some labors in silicon metal producers were slightly injured with facilities little affected. However, silicon metal shipments were impeded as some segments were blocked by landslide.
