SHANGHAI, Apr. 18 (SMM) -
Overseas Market:
Vale produced 501,000 mt of manages ore in Q1 this year, with Azul accounting for 76% at 381,000 mt, and Urucum contributing 19.5% at 98,000 mt. Output at Urucum grew 5.9% MoM and 46.8% YoY. This is due largely to higher production efficiency from use of new equipments. Azul’s output, in contrast, tumbled 27.2% MoM, and was up a mere 0.4% YoY, because of limited handling capacity of its plants.
Domestic market:
Sales volumes of spot manganese ore at ports were thin, but inquiries increased. Traded prices varied greatly among different categories. Manganese alloy producers are pushing for even lower input costs against their own severe losses. CIF prices for manages ore will most likely continue to rise in May, forcing additional losses for manganese ore traders.
Transactions:
In northern ports, another ship of South Africa mixed carbonate manganese ore arrived, but most of which has been sold to manganese alloy producer, with little available for sale at ports. In southern ports, offers increased, but trading was light.
