Finished steel prices edged up following the Chinese Qingming holiday, and international iron ore prices also went up.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 16 (SMM) -

Iron Ore:
Finished steel prices edged up following the Chinese Qingming holiday, and international iron ore prices also went up. Market players believe steel prices will unlikely rise sharply given the current high inventories. Iron & steel industry sentiment will hardly improve significantly in Q2 this year.

Domestic market:
Trading activity in China’s spot manganese ore markets remained depressed. Trading volumes of South Africa mixed carbonate manganese ore also contracted, putting downward pressure on its prices. Traders at ports are holding to the sidelines. High CIF prices for imported manganese ore, sluggish manages alloy markets and slack demand for steel are plaguing ferrous metals markets.

Transactions:
In the Port of Tianjin, transactions volumes of manganese ore from Malaysia and South Africa outperformed otters. In the Port of Qinzhou, Australian high-grade manganese ore was favored.
