Expanding Aluminum Application Can Do Little to Lift Aluminum Prices
Chen Quanxun, General of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CNIA) proposed three major approaches to expanding aluminum application and promoting energy-saving and emissions-cut: replacing steel with aluminum in vehicles, substituting aluminum for copper in power industry and replacing wood with aluminum in furniture.
SMM understands that expanding aluminum application can boost demand for aluminum, but will have only marginal effect in lifting aluminum prices for the foreseeable future since aluminum capacity is now in severe surplus.
