SHANGHAI, Apr. 8 (SMM) -
Domestic market:
Spot manganese ore prices held stable, but trading was thin as manganese alloy producers refrained from buying against depressing manganese alloy market. Traders say lowering manganese ore prices will do little to increase trading volumes. SMM believes less manganese ore arriving at ports will lend some support to manganese ore prices. Offers for selected categories of manganese ore were firm in China’s northern and southern ports due to tight supply, but sales volumes were limited.
Transactions:
In the Port of Qinzhou, with the exception of Malaysian and Australian high-grade manganese ore and South African mixed carbonate manganese ore, trading volumes of all categories of manganese ore were sparse. In the Port of Tianjin, mainstream Australian manganese ore (lump) and South African mixed carbonate manganese ore (lump) were the most popular.
Summary:
CIF prices for manganese ore are rising steadily. On the other hand, low operating rates at manganese alloy producers are eroding demand for manganese ore. These incurred further losses on manganese ore traders.
