Platts reported that manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland were higher in March at 132,250 mt compared with 65,000 mt in February.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 7 (SMM) -

Domestic market:
Manganese ore traders at ports held offers little changed from pre-holiday levels on the first trading day following the Chinese Qingming holiday. Inquires from manganese alloy producers were sparse during the three-day public holiday. Market players explained this is because the CIF price of manganese ore for arrival in mid-to-late April is high, which lent some support to spot manganese ore prices. Besides, firm offers by overseas suppliers also kept traders optimistic over future prices.

Summary:
Trading activity in manganese ore markets will remain stagnant. Traders at ports will hardly lower prices in early April. Therefore, whether demand from manganese alloy producers will improve during the rainy season and demand for finished steel are key factors affecting future manganese ore prices.
