SHANGHAI, Mar. 29 (SMM) -
Domestic market:
Spot manganese ore was quoted unchanged from yesterday at Chinese ports, but few deals were completed for three reasons. First, suppliers and buyers failed to reach an agreement over prices. Second, market players generally believe that manganese alloy producers will lower bid price by RMB 50-150/mt, but it was rumored that manganese alloy producers will lower bid prices far more than forecasted. Third, traders are cutting purchases while reducing inventories out of growing bearishness over future prices. SMM believes the fruitless MB Hong Kong Conference will further dampen traders’ buying interest.
Transactions:
South African mixed carbonate manganese ore and Australian manganese ore (lump) were still preferred by buyers. Manganese ore from Brazil is in the process of customs declaration, and its trading volumes may rise in the future.
Trading activity at ports turned even quieter before the weekend and as Chinese tomb-sweeping Day is due next week. Domestic steel mills will try to push for lower input costs against their own losses from sluggish consumption downstream.
