China Manganese Ore Market Movement (2013-3-26)

Prices for spot manganese ore at Chinese ports continued to drop due to sluggish consumption.

SHANGHAI, Mar. 26 (SMM) -

Domestic market:
Prices for spot manganese ore at Chinese ports continued to drop due to sluggish consumption. Some Chinese manganese alloy producers dropped import orders made earlier. SMM’s survey found that large quantities of manganese ore from Australia and South Africa have arrived at northern ports. This will send spot manganese ore prices at ports down and further widen price spread between spot and CIF prices. On macro news, five new measures aimed at cooling domestic housing markets have been implemented in Guangdong, but a 20% income tax on gains from second-home sales has not yet been imposed. Housing prices in China are still on the rise.

To sum up, spot manganese ore prices at ports are still under downward pressure.
