China Manganese Ore Market Movement (2013-3-25)

Rio Tinto, Broken Hill Proprietary Company (BHP) and Vale all reported decreases in profits due to rising production costs and global economic slowdown.
SHANGHAI, Mar. 26 (SMM) -
Domestic market:
Spot manganese ore prices remained depressing. CML quoted manganese ore (Mn 46%) for April delivery at USD 6.1/mtu, while mainstream traded price for spot manganese ore (Mn 46%) in China’s southern ports were RMB 45.5/mtu. Manganese alloy producers may suffer even heavier losses given that steel mills have been trying to push for lower input costs.
Transactions:
South African mixed carbonate manganese ore remained the most-trade one in China’s southern and northern ports, but traded prices fell steadily. Market players are bearish over future prices.
As top steel producer, China has robust demand for manganese alloy. On the other hand, a supply overhang of manganese alloy will keep manganese ore prices in check.
