The steel market continued to weaken due to sluggish end-user demand.
SHANGHAI, Mar. 18 (SMM) – The steel market continued to weaken due to sluggish end-user demand. Spot prices of major steel products have been falling over the past week, with the largest weekly declines since September 2012. High steel inventories and daily output caused steel supply and demand imbalance to grow, and combined with cash flow problems at the end of the month, the steel market was very sluggish.
In this context, spot silicomanganese alloy prices continued to fall. Operating rates at silicomanganese alloy producers did not drop noticeably. If producers do not cut output significantly, they will be inclined to discount goods in the near term.
