SHANGHAI, Mar. 13 (SMM) – According to some market players, domestic scrap metal imports entries were very strict recently, and all scrap electric wire and metal scraps imports are forbidden with the exception of bare bright, #1 and #2 copper and radiator imports. SMM surveyed some domestic importers and they denied the rumors. They said China Customs are very strict with import entry examination, but scrap metals can be imported if they are applied to customs by category.
Nevertheless, importers in Tianjin were vexing. One importer in Ziya, Tianjin, which operates two dismantlers told SMM that Tianjin Custom dealt with their import entry applications very slowly, so 80% of imported scrap metals had entered through Port of Yingkou due to higher efficiency and cheaper charges. But Yingkou informed recently that scrap metals imported through Yingkou should be dismantled before they are transported to Tianjin or other regions, so importers are forced to switch to Tianjin for import entries. Since large amounts of scrap imports enter Port of Tianjin, operation will be slower.
Importation will be affected due to wide fluctuation of metals and slow import entries. Many market players manage to resolve the problem, while some shifted to some ports of Shandong.
