China Silicomanganese Alloy Market Movement: Demand for Silicomanganese Alloy Sluggish, Production Costs Increase Due to Rising Manganese Ore Prices (2013-2-1)

Hebei Iron & Steel unexpectedly lowered silicomanganese alloy procurement prices by RMB 50/mt in February.
SHANGHAI, Feb. 1 (SMM) – Hebei Iron & Steel unexpectedly lowered silicomanganese alloy procurement prices by RMB 50/mt in February, while most other steel plants maintained prices unchanged from the previous month. Quotes for manganese ore were changed from once a month to once a week, and raised for China, causing production costs at silicomanganese alloy producers to increase further. But given soft downstream demand, any support from costs for silicomanganese alloy prices weakened.
