SHANGHAI, Jan. 23 (SMM) – Baosteel announced its carbon slab selling prices for March 2013, with prices for cold-rolling and hot-rolling products up RMB 100-300/mt. This is the fourth time Baosteel raised its steel prices. That is because raw amterial costs are still high. Besides, domestic economy bottomed out in 4Q 2012 and manufacturing is optimistic in 2013, so demand for carbon slab should be released noticeably. In addition, orders at Baosteel for February increased sharply, so it advanced steel price announcement.
But silicomanganese alloy prices remain steady now. The market is quiet as steel plants have built stocks. The market will remain cautious until mainstream steel plants release silicomanganese alloy procurement prices for February.
