SMM sources report demand for steel is weak due to the weather and upcoming Chinese New Year holiday.
SHANGHAI, Jan. 15 (SMM) – SMM sources report demand for steel is weak due to the weather and upcoming Chinese New Year holiday, so steel prices are expected to fluctuate at high levels in the near term. Meanwhile, profits at steel plants did not improve due to rising raw material prices. As such, most steel plants are in low demand for silicomanganese alloy after finishing purchase plan for January-February. Silicomanganese alloy prices find strong support from manganese ore and coke costs.
